About the artist:
Photographer Karl Ferris
was originally commisioned by Brian Epstein, the Saville's owner and, famously,
the Beatles' manager to create this poster. The image features the well-known
"Psychedelic Fisheye" photograph of the band taken by Ferris, the Saville's "House
photographer" at the time, as well as lettering that was later used on the album
cover for the Jimi Hendrix Experience's first US album "Are you experienced".
The June 4th 1967 concert featured in this poster was perhaps one of the most
memorable of the Saville's nights, with Hendrix smashing his guitar on stage for
the first time. The shattered pieces that he threw to the audience can now be
found as the prime Jimi Hendrix memorabilia exhibit at the Experience Music Project
Museum in Seattle. Also on the bill that night, making their debut appearance,
were Procol Harum, as well as the Electric String Band and the Chiffons.
About the poster:
This poster is one in a series of commemorative reprints from this era planned
by the artist (another Hendrix, a Cream, and a Donovan poster are planned). It
is printed on a quality heavy card stock suitable for framing.
